Unlocking Microsoft Loop: A New Era of Collaboration
Microsoft Loop is changing the way teams collaborate — not just by sharing documents, but by co-authoring live components across apps like Teams, Outlook, OneNote, and Whiteboard. So how does Loop work, where does it live, and how does it integrate with Copilot?
What Is Loop?
Loop is a real-time collaboration platform that lets users co-author snippets of content — called Loop components — rather than entire Office documents. These components can include:
- Tables, checklists, progress trackers
- Polls, videos, and voting tables
- Embedded tasks
Loop Structure: Workspace → Page → Component
While you can easily share a loop component with another user, you can also create a whole Loop page (which itself is a file with a .loop extension, that may or may not contain other .loop components). A Loop workspace can contain pages, subpages, and associated reference links and files.
Loop in Meetings, Chats, and Copilot
Loop integrates deeply with Microsoft 365:
- Chats: Group chats now include Notes powered by Loop.
- Meetings: The Microsoft 365 Copilot Facilitator agent saves meeting notes as Loop pages
- Copilot: Copilot Notebooks (and pages) allow you to save and share source materials, prompts and generative outputs, powered by Loop.
- Outlook: Loop components can be embedded directly into emails, turning threads into collaborative workspaces. Tables, checklists, and trackers stay editable right inside your inbox.
- OneNote: Bring Loop into your notebooks: embed dynamic components like checklists or progress trackers that update across apps, perfect for project journals, research logs, or team planning.
Loop is the connective tissue across Microsoft 365—transforming chats, meetings, emails, notes, and Copilot outputs into living, collaborative components that evolve with your work.
Storage and Sharing: Behind the Scenes
Loop content is stored in SharePoint Embedded — a UI-less site tied to either a user’s OneDrive or a Microsoft 365 group. Key facts:
- Each user has a personal workspace, usually titled, (you guessed it), “My Workspace”.
- Users can also create additional workspaces associated with their own user account.
- Microsoft 365 groups can also have associated workspaces. (Since Microsoft 365 groups already have an associated SharePoint Team Site, this workspace site powered by SharePoint Embedded is a separate SharePoint site.)
- View your Loop workspaces in the Containers section of your SharePoint Admin Center.
- Loop workspaces count against your SharePoint storage quota.
Where Are Loop Files Stored?
Because Loop components are not required to be created within a Loop workspace, it’s not always clear where Loop files will be stored. Take a look at this chart to see a breakdown of where your Loop content is stored.
Microsoft Loop represents a major step forward in collaborative work — moving beyond static documents to dynamic, reusable components that live across apps and devices. By combining Loop with Copilot, organizations can streamline meetings, centralize notes, brainstorm ideas, and collaborate on content in real time. For teams looking to modernize their workflows, Loop offers both flexibility and structure, making it a powerful tool for the future of digital collaboration.
Savvy Technical Solutions can help your organization unlock the full potential of Loop. Microsoft Events
Microsoft Ignite RECAP – Nov. 18-20, 2025
Microsoft Ignite is the annual event where major announcements are shared. This year was all about moving from chatbots to enterprise AI agents. Here are the biggest Microsoft 365 announcements from this past November’s event, you’ll want to know:
Key Highlights
- Agent 365 – Microsoft unveiled Agent 365, designed to act as autonomous enterprise agents that can perform tasks across systems, workflows, and teams — with built-in management, observability, and security.
- Anthropic Partnership – Microsoft is now incorporating Anthropic’s Claude models in Copilot, giving enterprises more choice beyond OpenAI.
- WorkIQ – WorkIQ is a new intelligence layer that builds a deep understanding of job roles, workflows, and organizational context—leveraging user data, personal preferences, and inferred insights to produce smarter, customized responses.
- Office App Agents & Agent Mode – The new Word, Excel, and PowerPoint agents are integrated directly into chat and native Office app experiences. These agents enable the creation of documents, spreadsheets, and slide decks with Copilot support.
- Frontier Program – Microsoft has rolled out a new early-adopter program called Frontier, for companies who want to be on the front lines of AI adoption. For those who have joined this program, Microsoft has released new agents for People, Skills, and Learning, as well agents for building apps and workflows.
Ignite 2025 signaled a clear shift: the chatbot era is ending, and the age of enterprise AI agents has begun. Microsoft is betting big on operational deployment, scalability, and governance — not just experimentation.
